Start with Why by Simon Sinek

I highly recommend reading his book Start With Why or watching any one of his TED or keynote speeches.

This book shook up an entire industry and began to lead the way for people to come together, share their vision and work together to find a better way.

Will it Fly? By Pat Flynn

Is your job not what you thought it was going to be? Feeling unhappy or unfulfilled doing what you’re doing? There’s a reason for that and this book can help. It can even help you find your superpower!

Although it’s written for people trying a new business idea, the worksheets and fun test that are included are game changing.

For instance, there is the history test. You go through all your previous work experience. You write-

  • The name of the company
  • When you were there
  • What was good about it
  • Your favorite memory
  • What was bad about it
  • and then give it a grade.

It was eye opening to see a pattern emerge of what I enjoyed and why I succeeded more or was happy in one place compared to another. Will it Fly? will do the same for you.

Awaken the Giant Within by Tony Robbins

This book will walk you through why you do what you do and how to stop doing it.

Ever wonder why you “know” you shouldn’t do something, but do it anyway? Or on the other end of it, we “know” we should be doing something and don’t? The reason is here.

Awaken the Giant Within will give you the compass and the map to learn what makes you tic and help you find ways to bring about the destiny you have been dreaming of for your life and those you love.

HealStress.com

The Morning Miracle by Hal Elrod

What is The Morning Miracle?

Hal Elrod built an entire community, by sharing a system he uses to become the person he needs to be, to attract the success he wants and enjoy every day as the greatest day ever.

The best part is, he didn’t set out to create a community. He shared his story and what he did, and people followed the system…6 simple steps in the morning….and they see results too.

This book and the transformation it’s had on so many people’s lives is a perfect example of the difference you can make in the lives of others by making a difference in your own life.

Art of Work by Jeff Goins

You can be good at something that is not your calling. You can go to work every day and perform well and still not feel fulfilled when you go home.

How do you handle a job when you are meant for something more? What do you do with the time between who you are now and who you are becoming?

Jeff Goins answers this and more in the Art of Work.

Mentors

Anyone who has become a success in life has had a mentor and I encourage you to seek them out where can so that you can reach your goals faster. They are the bridge between where you are and where you want to be.

Since, everyone’s life circumstances vary, instead of providing a one size fits all, I’ll share with you my dream team in the hopes it gives you some insight and direction as you build your own.

So, what’s a dream team?

A dream team is a group of people, with specific skills, that work with you to get you where you want to be.

Just as a football team has strength and conditioning coaches, quarterback coaches and other coaches specializing in an exact skill set, your dream team will be the same.

What are the aspects of your personal and professional life that you would like to improve on and who are the people that could get you there?

For my dream team, I was fortunate enough to gather 5. There are certainly other honorable mentions that I am grateful for. But in recent years, these 5 have had the most dramatic impact in transforming my life and the lives of others.

I dubbed them “The High Five”.

They are my superhero’s if you will. They have superpowers to help tackle any foe.

So, who is in The High Five and what are their powers?

First up is Pat Flynn.

He is the owner of Flynndustries LLC and has a very successful brand and following at smartpassiveincome.com, as well as a podcast and other inspiring ventures. He is an online genius, one of the most giving and open philanthropists I’ve ever seen and a crash test dummy of different ideas.

Pat’s special power is he controls time. Through being open and transparent in all he does, you can go back in time and see what he has done. This lets you speed up your own time and shorten the learning curve to get you there.

Whenever I am stuck, I plug in “How does Pat Flynn…” or “What does Pat Flynn use to…” and I immediately have the answers in front of me.

His books Will it Fly and Let Go are life changing and you can see a review of Will it Fly in the career development section of this resource page.

Next up is Steve Scott. He is a 6-figure bestselling author who writes under the pen name S.J. Scott, is a habit master and owner of www.developgoodhabits.com.

His special power is in rituals and habits.

Through his site or anyone of his insightful and guided books, you can develop the skills necessary to master your day. If you look at anyone’s habits for the last 6 months and you will see a prediction of the next 6 months. Success lies in habits and he will get you there.

Best of all? He’s also a very successful writer. If it has been a passion of yours to write a book and get a message out to the world, I highly recommend his and Barrie Davenport’s website, podcast and course at  https://authority.pub or reading Steve’s habit stacking book to begin creating change in your life.

What if you have this, but have to much do or feel like you don’t have any support? That’s where Chris Ducker comes in.

His power is he allows you to multiply yourself, so there are several “you’s” getting stuff done.

His platform Youpreneur.com is perfect for anyone wanting to find a community of like minded people to share ideas and help each other out.

His other platform, virtualstafffinder.com is an exceptional service that searches for and finds amazing virtual assistants to help you in your journeys. If you need to vet ideas or create a team, Chris Ducker will get you there.

You can have everything mentioned above and still not be able to get your message out. I believe we all have an interesting story to tell. Our lives are all unique and we all have value that could help someone in need.

But how to tell an engaging story that people can relate to?

The answer rest with Grant Baldwin. He is an all-around good guy, loved by all and has been doing public speaking since he was a teenager.

His special power is he shows you how to speak to be heard. Your story and your voice will unfold under his guidance.

Even if public speaking isn’t in your future anytime soon, the art of being able to put together a speech is an important skill to learn. I highly recommend checking out his podcast or exploring his courses at https://thespeakerlab.com.

Last, but certainly not least is Michael Hyatt. He is a former chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers. Through his site https://michaelhyatt.com he helps people become better leaders and better people in every aspect of their lives.

His special power rest in being the elder of the group. The guide.

True success rest in being successful in all areas of your life and he is a living example of how your life could be. Best of all, through his books and his website, he openly shows you how you can get there too.

So, that’s my dream team. The High Five.

Who’s going to be on yours?

Communication and Influence

Employee Engagement 2.0 by Kevin Kruse

You ever work with an unhappy person? Like they just always seem to have a problem with something or someone? I know I have.

This book can help you to understand why that person is the way they are.

Although, it’s written more for managers and leaders on how they can engage, encourage and survey their teams to get better results, it is incredibly eye opening and written perfectly so that anyone reading it will find it entertaining.

If you use the books’ tools and listen to the people and how they speak, you may find they are unpleasant simply because their needs and what motivates them aren’t being met.

You also may find that when you connect with them on their level, they are more willing to help and be apart of your winning team.

Employee Engagement 2.0 will get you there.

Conversation Tactics: Winning workplace strategies by Patrick King

I can’t say enough good things about Patrick King. Any one of his books on communication can help you begin building better relationships and people skills.

This books focus is mainly on workplace communication and if you are working in a team environment it is an important book to have in your arsenal.

You may even learn some hidden treasures within yourself you didn’t realize were there before.

Why do we do what we do and what is the science behind it?

A fascinating book, perfectly written so that complex ideas are shared in a way that you can visually see the stories the author shares.

In this book you will uncover the psychology behind our behaviors and how to apply the principles in your own life.

Time Management

The Four-Hour Work Week by Timothy Ferriss

When this book came out it took the world by storm and changed the landscape forever.

Deep and insightful, it is the journey Timothy Ferriss. A man who was being worked to death being a slave to his own business.

It tells of how he was able to structure his day and instead of time being an enemy, he used the tools and techniques he shares in the book, to make time his friend. This is an invaluable book for any person at any stage in their life.

Beyond the mindfulness of his techniques to master your day, there are surprising insights into your own motivations for why you would want to work a 4-hour work week.

Reading this will level up your day. Not only will you do the most when you have the most energy, by putting a routine and habits in place, you can begin to predict your success.
